Question

I sold my home in November and didn't receive a 1098 form. Can I submit my taxes without this form? When asked the mortgage acquisition date, I don't know what to put.

You can file without entering this information, however:

You should have received a HUD-1 (closing statement) when you sold your home.  On that statement it will list the proration of property taxes and interest paid for the amount you were responsible for during 2020.  You can use that amount for your personal tax.  The mortgage acquisition date will be the same as reported on last years return, if you did not refinance.

If you take the standard deduction and do not itemize then it is likely that it will make no difference whether you enter this information or not.
