Solved

I've entered expenses for my work as a sergeant with the sheriff's office - equipment only for use at work and education. However this doesn't change my tax due. Why?

Unfortunately, as part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that Congress signed into law on December 22, 2017, beginning on your 2018 Tax Return, "Unreimbursed Employee Expenses" are no longer allowed as an itemized deduction on Schedule A.

This deduction has been suspended in tax years 2018 through 2025.

Even when the deduction was allowed, it was  only a misc. itemized deduction also subject to the 2% of AGI threshold.
