I was scammed out of $2900. Can I deduct it, and if so, where do I put it on the form?

Unfortunately, no.

 

In the past, you might have claimed a theft loss.

 

 Under the new tax law, for tax years 2018 through 2025, the personal casualty and theft loss deduction isn’t available, except for casualty losses incurred in a federally declared disaster.
