Question

I work full time and as a contractor. Can I claim my medical insurance as an expense if I am being reimbursed for a portion of it?

I work full time and receive a partial reimbursement for my medical insurance. I also have a side 1099 business. Can I claim the difference of my medical insurance paid with my 1099 business? For instance: I am paying $600 out of pocket and getting reimbursed for $300 of it. Can I claim the additional $300/month as a business expense?

No, if the policy is through work.

The insurance plan must be established, or considered to be established as discussed in the following bullets, under your business.

  • For self-employed individuals filing a Schedule C, C-EZ, or F, a policy can be either in the name of the business or in the name of the individual.
