I worked in foreign country for a us contractor. Taxes were paid to the local country by my company. How do I get a tax break for this?

Before I can answer your question I need to clarify some areas on your question.

  1. You said you were paid by a U.S. Contractor. Were U.S. income taxes withheld on your payroll?
  2. You said your employer paid the foreign taxes to the country. Did you pay the foreign taxes out of your payroll?
  3. What were the dates that you worked out of the United States? You might be eligible for a Foreign Income Exclusion deduction on your return.
