Question

Id like to know why my daughter doesn't qualify for EIC this year? It's saying it's cause she's 17 but she turned 17 at the end of last year & is only a junior in HS?

It's not saying she doesn't qualify you for EIC  (she does). It's saying she no longer qualifies you for the Child Tax Credit.

This comes as a big surprise to many parents the year their child turns 17. A child over age 16 no longer qualifies for the Child Tax credit (CTC). Although a child can still be a student dependent through age 23, and a qualifying child for EIC,  the Child Tax Credit expires the year they turn 17 and you no longer get the $2000 CTC. Instead you will get the non-refundable (up to) $500 Other Dependent Credit.

Even though your child turned 17, late in the year, you get no child tax credit for the year. Remember, the year she was born, you got the full CTC although she was only here a few weeks.
