If I lived in a halfway house for all of 2018, do I get additional deductions? Why is that a question if it doesn't affect my refund??>

The only way it may affect your return is the fact that income received while in a halfway house, while incarcerated or in a work release program will not qualify as earned income for the Earned Income Credit (EIC).
