If I purchased a vehicle in texas do I claim the sales tax paid in personal property tax or as a major purchase in state sales tax?

You will enter as Sales Tax- major purchase.

The government allows you the option of taking either a deduction for state and local income taxes, or a deduction for sales tax paid throughout the year. TurboTax uses the amount of sales tax you were estimated to have paid throughout the year using an IRS formula. To that, you can add actual sales tax you paid on "big" purchases such as for cars or mobile homes.
