Question

If I was compensated by the Air Force for a Permanent Change of Station can I still file expenses (gas/travel and lodging) as deductions?

Yes, if you had expenses above the reimbursed amount then you can claim these expenses. You can only deduct unreimbursed moving expenses.

Your eligible moving expenses include household goods, personal effects, storage and traveling expenses (including lodging) to your new home. You can’t deduct any expenses for meals.  Please see Moving Expenses for Members of the Armed Forces for more details.

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “moving expenses”
  3. Click on “Jump to moving expenses”
