If my foreign income exceeds the allowed foreign earned income for exclusion, can i take a foreign tax credit on the remainder?

Yes, you can take the foreign tax credit on the remainder. You can actually take both the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion and Foreign Tax Credit in the same year. However, you cannot take both on the same dollar of income.
