if there is no property tax information in 1098, where do i find it

I just bought a home and as far as i know, the property tax is being paid through my mortgage. im not seeing property tax information listed on my 1098, so where else could i look to find it?

    Typically, escrowed property taxes are reported on box 10 of Form 1098.  If you do not see it there, you could log on to your mortgage servicer's website, and look at your transaction history.  You could also contact the tax collector where you live.  

     

    Since you just bought the home, don't forget to also include the property taxes you paid at closing, from your settlement sheet, HUD-1.

    Also, if you just bought the home at the end of the year.....they may not be paying property taxes on it until sometime in 2025....so your escrowed money is just building up until the payment does become due......and may not show until they issue the 2025 form 1098.

     

    (the prop taxes you paid at closing may not be part of the 2024 Form 1098)
