Question

If you had a refund on 2021 taxes that was applied to 2022 taxes, where do you show that?

The system states I owe a penalty for underpayment, which would not be the case if I could show the refund that was applied to 2022 taxes.

If you prepared your taxes is TurboTax last year, the refund should already be applied to your payments for 2022.

If you need to add the refund from 2021 that was applied to your 2022 taxes, you can do this by f you didn't transfer your 2021 return over, you can manually enter the amount by doing this:

  1.  Sign into your TurboTax Account
  2.  Go to Deductions & Credits
  3.  Then go to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  4.  Select Estimates
  5.  Go to Other Income Taxes, then Start/Update/Revisit
  6.  Scroll to 2021 Refund Applied
  7. Enter the correct amount of refund, or zero, available to be applied to 2022.

Please see this TurboTax Help article for more information.
