Question

In the medical expense section, what would a sleep study be classified as? Spent over 1k and would like to put that on my taxes.

This study was done in a hospital - not at home. In total, the test and the analysis was over $1000

You have a couple of choices I'll mention below.  It doesn't really matter too much since TurboTax is just going to add up all your medical expenses and provide the total to the IRS.  The various categories are mainly for your benefit so you don't forget something.   Plus when you later save a copy of your return, the various categories will show on the underlying Medical Expenses Worksheet, which you'll have for your records, but only the total flows from that worksheet to Schedule A, where it is reported to the IRS.

 

You could use the category "Medical facilities." 

Or if you keep going several screens, one of the last screens in the medical expense section is for "Other" medical expenses.  It's for things that didn't fit neatly into a category.   There you will have a space where you can customize a label for an expense and amount.    So if you wish you could enter "Sleep study" and the amount there.
