Yes, both a new heat pump purchase (electric or natural gas) and a new propane furnace purchase are listed as qualified energy property costs on the IRS forms and in TurboTax.

Here's where to enter your expenses:

  1. Open you return in TurboTax.
  2. Select the down arrow to the right of Deductions & Credits.
  3. Select Pick up where you left off.
  4. Select Start or Edit to the right of Home Energy Credits.
  5. Answer Yes, and Continue.
  6. Answer the next few questions according to your situation.
  7. On the screen, Enter your qualified energy property costs, enter the amount paid for your heat pump to the right of Heat pumps (electric or natural gas).
  8. On the same screen, enter the amount of your expenses for your propane furnace in the box to the right of Water boilers (natural gas, propane, or oil water).
  9. Continue to the end of the section.
