I see where the deductible IRA contribution appears on Schedule 1. I do not see how it flows to Page 1 of

Form 1040.  I see where state tax refunds flow to Page 1 from Sch. 1.    What am I doing wrong?  Please give instructions how to get contribution on page 1, please specify line #.  Do I have to override and add it to Line 6 on form 1040.

The effect of the deduction ultimately appears in the amount on Form 1040 line 7 by being subtracted from the amount on line 6.  For the path it takes to get there, see the details below.

Make sure that you are not making entries directly on forms in forms mode.  Make all entries in step-by-step mode.  Enter you traditional IRA contribution under Deductions & Credits -> Retirement and Investments -> Traditional and Roth IRA Contributions.

The traditional IRA contribution entered in step-by-step mode is put on line 1 of the IRA Contribution Worksheet and flows through to line 17 after considering all of the other information on that worksheet.  Line 17 propagates to line 32 of the 1040 Worksheet.  Line 32 propagates to Schedule 1 line 32.  Line 32 of the 1040 Worksheet is included in the total on line 36 of the 1040 Worksheet and line 36 of the 1040 Worksheet gets subtracted from line 6 of the 1040 Worksheet to produce the entry on line 7 of the 1040 Worksheet.  Line 7 of the 1040 Worksheet flows to line 7 of Form 1040.
