2017 tax return was done by outside accountant.  Is it necessary to input details from last years tax return?

No, you do not need to enter the details of your prior tax return unless there are carry forward losses from capital gains or charity donations. You will also need the details of any depreciation you may have taken. 

You will need to report your 2017 AGI in order to e-file.
