Is the property index number for the home I lived in 2021 or the home I lived in 2022?

That depends on the state, some charge the year before and others charge after.

Illinois, for example, charges the year after, so taxes you pay in 2022 would normally be for the house in which you lived in 2021.

You should be able to look at your tax bill (where the Property Index Number would be also be located) to find the tax year of that bill.
