Is there a difference in the medical expense deduction on the Minnesota return versus the Federal return?

The Federal requires medical expenses to exceed 7.5% of your AGI.  But I have an uneasy feeling that Minnesota is still stuck at 10% but I can't seem to find confirmation on this anywhere.

Yes, MN still believes the federal threshold is 10% of your AGI and mirrors this amount.

Here is the language from the legislature:

For tax year 2017, the federal income tax allows itemized deductions for:

  • state and local property and either income or sales taxes
  • mortgage and investment interest
  • charitable contributions
  • medical expenses in excess of 10 percent of income
  • casualty and theft losses in excess of 10 percent of income
  • job expenses and miscellaneous expenses (most only allowed in excess of 2 percent of income)

The federal threshold was expected to be 10% until the 7.5% was extended on December 22, 2017. Many of the publications and forms were already drafted for this tax season. At this time, MN has not updated their publications.
