Why cant I deduct any of my job related expenses. I just bought a new vehicle, moved into a new centrally located home and spent a good amount of money setting up my office at home. All of these are requirements of my career. Why cant I claim these in 2019?

If you are an employee who receives a W-2 for wages, then due to the tax code changes in effect for tax years 2018 thru 2025, none of your employee business expenses are deductible on a federal tax return.

Moving expenses are not deductible on a federal tax return except for active duty military under Permanent Change of Station orders.

So no vehicle related depreciation, no mileage, nothing? Why are the options even available to fill out? None of my cost of doing business can be written off? Wow, my career choices are taking a change for the worse!

Some of the states have not elected to follow the federal tax code for employee business expenses so your state may have these expenses available as a deduction on a state tax return.
