Question

Last year our personal property taxes paid were listed under 'Personal Taxes paid on boats, etc.' This year we weren't able to enter values there?

For 2024, I was forced to list them as vehicle registration fees, which they are not. I just don't understand why I can't list the property taxes where they were listed last year. And yes, I under stand that not all of it may be deductible due to SALT.

You can enter ‌personal property taxes under taxes paid on things you own this year.

Here's how to do this in TurboTax Online:

    1. Navigate to Federal > Deductions & Credits > Cars and Other Things You Own > Personal Property Taxes

    2. Enter the the personal property taxes you paid.

Except that even when I haven’t entered the max SALT taxes, it tells me I have and it won’t let me enter any values. Our vehicle registration fees aren’t deductible in our state (VA) but our property taxes are. Last year I was able to enter the property taxes under that section. It also seems that there is a known issue with this.

Why can I not enter my property taxes paid?

by TurboTaxo 4. ® Updated 4 days ago

Some TurboTax Desktop customers who have both mortgage and non-mortgage property taxes paid that they need to report, may experience an issue when entering 1098 first, and non-mortgage property taxes paid afterward in Credits and Deductions.

We're currently working to resolve this issue. If you'd like to receive progress updates, sign up below.

For the Desktop version, this is indeed a known issue, but we are working hard to resolve it.
