looking for Oregon Medical Expense deduction, it's not showing up this year

I believe you're referring to the Special Oregon medical subtraction, which is allowed for qualifying taxpayers who've turned age 66 by the end of the tax year.  The subtraction is available in TurboTax Online.

To claim this subtraction from income, you need to make sure you've entered your medical expenses in the federal portion of TurboTax Online.  Even though you may not have enough allowable deductions to qualify to use itemized deductions on your federal return, entering your medical expenses in the federal section will populate your information on your Oregon return.

To enter medical expenses in TurboTax Online:

1. Open TurboTax Online
2. Select Tax Home in the left pane
3. Select the dropdown to the right of Deductions & Credits, then select Start, Continue, or Review/Edit
4. On the  Your tax breaks page, select the dropdown to the right of Medical Expenses
5. Select  Start or Revisit to the right of Medical Expenses
6. Proceed through the following screens, entering all medical expenses

Then, to enter your Oregon medical subtraction in TurboTax Online: 

1. Open TurboTax Online
2. Select  Tax Home in the left pane
3. In the left pane, select the dropdown to the right of State Taxes
4. Select  Review/Edit
5. Page through any screens until you get to Status of your state returns
6. Select  Edit  or Continue next to Oregon
7. Early in the interview, you'll come to the Oregon Medical Expense Subtraction screen
8. Enter any medical expenses for yourself (and your spouse, if married -- you'll need to enter your expenses separately) in the appropriate box, then select Continue. DO NOT enter any medical expenses for any dependents you might be claiming.

According to Special Oregon medical subtraction in the Schedule OR-ASC and OR-ASC-NP Instructions, Oregon Adjustments (2024):

You may qualify for the special Oregon medical subtraction if: 

• You or your spouse turned age 66 by the end of the tax year; 

• Your federal AGI isn’t more than $200,000 ($100,000 if your filing status is single or married filing separately); and

• You or your spouse have qualifying medical or dental expenses. 

 

Medical or dental expenses qualify if they can be included in itemized deductions. Refer to IRS Publication 502 to see which expenses qualify. You can’t subtract expenses: 

• For anyone under age 66; 

• For dependents, regardless of their age; or 

• That are deducted elsewhere on your return.
