Maryland tax report

Hi,

I have a question about Maryland state tax reporting. I am a green card holder. I left the US in October 2022 with my reentry permit. And now I live in Italy.

Before I left the US, I lived in Maryland. In 2023, I did not have any income from Maryland; I only had income from US bank interest and income from Italy.

Currently, I do not have any property or income from Maryland, but I still have a Maryland driver's license. I am wondering if I still need to file taxes in Maryland. According to Maryland tax law: "Maryland will tax you on all your worldwide income if you are domiciled in the state, even though you may not be a resident there." I am wondering if this applies to my situation or not.

I plan to return to the US at some point (possibly to Maryland or elsewhere) and renew my green card.

Thank you.

You are no longer domiciled in the state of Maryland.  Your domicile is currently in Italy.  Since you did not have any Maryland sourced income in 2023 you do not need to file a 2023 Maryland state income tax return.
