Hello,

I am a Massachusetts State Employee and contribute to the Massachusetts Employee Contributory Pension Plan.

On my W2, this is noted in box 14 as "UA $3772"

I believe I am able to deduct $2000 of this, but I am not sure how.

Can someone please confirm that I can deduct this contribution, and explain to me how to make the deduction using Turbo Tax.

Thank you very much!

It looks like you can deduct up to $2,000 of your contributions to the Massachusetts Employee Contributory Pension Plan

Here’s how to do it in TurboTax:

    1. Log in to TurboTax
    2. Click on this link to Double-check your W-2: Ensure the contribution amount is correctly noted in Box 14.
    3. Select the Correct Category: In TurboTax, go back to your W-2 entry and check the description for Box 14. Make sure you select "Massachusetts State or US Retirement System" from the drop-down menu (see picture below)
    4. Enter the Contribution
    5. Go to your Massachusetts State Taxes
      1. Continue through the state's questions. When you get to the question, retirement deductions, be sure to answer carefully
      2. Enter the amount from Box 14 of your W-2 (If amount isn't there)
      3. Continue through the prompts to complete your state return.
