Hi,

My mom passed away on 6/3/2024 and my sister, brother and I inherited the house.  My sister and I was already residing there before mom passed away, but the name on the mortgage was changed to "the estate of ___".  We are making the monthly payments.  I am getting ready to prepare my mom's 2024 taxes, and I was wondering if the mortgage interest should be applied to mom's taxes, since she was alive for the first six months of 2024?  Thank you.

Yes, you should apply the mortgage interest to her final tax return based on the months she was alive in 2024.

I am sorry for your loss.
