Last year...similar numbers, same status...mortgage interest increased return by several thousand.

This year only a few hundred.

Is the software calculating this entry correctly?

we can't see your return. check schedule A mortgage interest section to see if the interest shown is correct. Other itemized deductions also affect your taxes so you really need to look at both 2019 and 2020 schedule A totals. in addition, itemized must exceed your standard deduction. 12,200 for '19 12,400 for '20 files under 65 using single status.
