Question

Mortgage interest - personal and rental

I converted my home to a rental in the later part of 2021. I have one 1098 with a total amount of mortgage interest paid. If I split that total amount in two, neither of these amounts matches my 1098.

Do I enter the proportional amount of mortgage interests under the personal deduction section and the proportional amount under the rental, even if neither amount matches the total one in my 1098? Would it raise a red flag with the IRS to do such a split? Is there a better way to solve this?

Thank you so much!

Yes, enter it just as you described, proportionally for rental and personal.  Reporting an amount less than your 1098 in each to places is not going to raise any red flags.
