There are several possibilities as to why this is happening.

1.     If you have no regular income tax, then you would see no change from entering your moving expenses.

2.     Did you meet the time and distance tests?

3.     Did your employer reimburse you for the expenses?

Please look at the following information about moving expense.

MOVING EXPENSE

Moving expenses are allowed to be deducted if you have moved to start a new job; or you transfer to a new location with the same employer.

In order to deduct moving expense on your tax return, you have to meet two tests.

1.        You must meet the distance test.  Your new job must be at least 50 miles further away from your old residence than your old residence was from your former job.  (For instance, your old residence was 10 miles away from your previous job.  Your new residence would have to be 60 miles away.)

2.       You must meet the time test.  You are required to work full time for a minimum of 39 weeks during the 12-month period that starts with the day of your move.  This doesn’t have to be all with the same employer.

If you meet, (or will meet) the conditions of the two tests, then you can deduct the costs of moving your household items to your new home.  You can deduct the cost of storing your household items for up to 30 days if you are not able to move in right away.
