What exactly does this mean

This means that the return has been selected for manual processing/review by an IRS agent.  You should get a letter from the IRS that will provide additional information before too long.  This can happen for any number of reasons, or no reason at all (random selection.)

So the 420 code means I’m being audited? I really need answers I am stressed out, I had a freeze, unfreeze, 971, 420, but I was issued what I paid in, that’s all! I’m so confused.

What ever happened with your refund? I’ve waited this long to get all the same codes and I’ve filed 1/31

Tam22,

I did everything that was requested by the Irs. All my documents were sent in by 2/27/22. I spoke with an examiner that stated this was due to EIC issue and I filed an amended return on 3/9/22 to correct the issue. On 3/28/22 I was approved for aid from the IRS tax payer advocate services. Someone was to reach out within four weeks. On 5/24/22 after no movement from the irs on the audit, no help from the taxpayer advocate group that was supposed to call in 4 weeks, and no movement on the amended return… I contacted my congressman. I sent them a detailed lengthy email explaining my hardships, how this was impacted me, and why I need their help. I had also tried contacting the taxpayer advocate services first and after trying to explain that after waiting almost two months with no one contacting me… that something had to be done… instead of helping, I was talked to disrespectfully, treated poorly, transferred around and on hold for five hours, and hung up on in the end. Not one person wanted or tried to help, nor would they even take the time to listen! On hat night of 5/24/22, I emailed my congress representative (anyone can do it) and I explained everything to them and the issues I was facing. On 5/27/22 I sent all of my tax documents to their office and was given an irs tax advocate that works through my congressman’s office. On 6/3/22 I finally received a call from the original taxpayer advocate that never contacted me  (I hink this was because of getting my congressman involved). The advocate asked a few very brief questions about my tax return, the EIC, and addressed new issue that I was unaware of. I guess my unemployment compensation money was never reported to the IRS by the employer. Therefore, I was flagged for it. Even though I have the bank statements and 1099-G to prove my income was received and I’m soooo greatful I sent it in on 2/27/22! She said if I documented things that well, that she was sending a request for Re-review of my audit and amended return. I will hear something within the next 10 days. That’s where we’re at now. This has truly been a nightmare & im hoping & praying it’s almost over!!!
