My actual medical expenses are less than calculated by Turbo Tax. Can someone tell me why?

The difference is probably medical insurance premiums listed on a 1099-R, SSA-1099, 1095, etc.

Yes, you can only deduct the amount of medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income.

The deduction is limited to the expenses above and beyond this amount.

To enter your medical /insurance expenses:

  • Type in medical expenses in the search box, top right of

  • your screen, hit Enter key

  • Click jump to medical expenses in the search results

  • Follow the prompts and online instructions
