Question

My car was a total loss in an accident out of state. How do I claim the mileage?

Your mileage logs didn't change due to the loss. If you take the standard mileage deduction, you enter the business miles If you have been claiming the car and using actual expenses, you will need to mark the car as disposed of for the price equal to insurance reimbursement.

Do you mean how do you claim the miles home? I imagine you had other travel expenses, rental car, Uber, something else.
