Question

My dependent does qualify for the Child Tax credit, but Turbo Tax says that he doesn't qualify? Why?

He is 13, lives with us full time, doesn't earn his own money. Why would Turbo Tax say he doesn't qualify? it says "Your total qualifying dependents comes from your lack of children that count for the Child Tax Credit." and "No children count for this credit since no dependent qualifies for Child Tax Credit."
It says he had "another disqualifying situation". Which is... what?
I feel like its a glitch in the system.

Please go back to your child's entry and check if by accident the "Social Security Number is not valid for employment" is checked when you entered your child's SSN.

 

Please follow these steps:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account 
  2. Click "My Info" from the left side of your screen
  3. Click “Edit” next to your child's name
  4. Continue through the questions until you get to the SSN screen
  5. Uncheck " "Social Security Number is not valid for employment"
