Question

My husband and child of 2020 did not receive a stimulus. When asked the correct amount it offered what my husband was missing but not the baby. I’ve read over line 30.

I cannot add more to line 30. How do I claim the baby’s stimulus?

In the program you will ONLY enter what you and your spouse actually received in advance (which would include the amount for the child if any)  and then if you are eligible for more of the stimulus money it will be put on line 30 automatically.

Be sure your baby is listed as a Child Tax Credit eligible dependent.  Note in the dependent interview that a child born in 2020 should be entered as living with you all year.

Go back to My Info and click Edit by the baby. Make sure you select she lived with you THE WHOLE YEAR not just the number of months. A child born even on Dec 31 is considered to live with you the whole year. It even says that on the screen.

@ashleyl5247 - please follow everyone's advice CLOSELY (and I will add one other thing)

1) your child lived with you THE WHOLE YEAR

2) enter the stimulus you ACTUALLY received for the 1st two stimulus payments,.

3) look WAY OVER to the right of Baby's name on your tax return.  There is a little check box under the column called "CTC" - that box must be checked for Line 30 to work correctly.  It will be correct if you've entered everything correctly (see #1 above which is the #1 error folks make - it is 'the WHOLE YEAR' - not the number of months after Baby was born in 2020.)

let us know if it works!

I made a screen shot for it!  The box on the right side needs to be checked for the Child Tax Credit, not Other Dependents.
