Question
My itemized deductions are higher than the standard deduction but the softward elects the standard deduction
Here is my summary of itemized deuctions:
- Proerty tax - $10,000
- Mortgage interest - $17,396
- Donations to charity - 6,776
Total itemization = $34,172, which is greater than the $27,700 standard deduction for tax year 2023. This amount is showing on line 17 of Schedule A.
That said, TuroTax elects the standard deduction (saying it is more favorable outcome), which is clearly not the case.
Please help, I was waiting for a software update, as October 15th is around the corner.
