My Itemized deductions are less than my standard deduction but lie 18 is checked to use the itemized amount who do I uncheck it?

    If you need to force the use of Standard Deductions, please follow the steps below: 

    1. Open your return.
    2. Click on Tax Tools on the left hand side.
    3. Click on Tools.
    4. Click Topic Search
    5. Search "itemized deductions, choosing"
    6. Click on Change my deduction.
    7. Choose Standard Deduction under Which deduction do you want to take this year?

    Yes, you can use Standard deduction if your itemized deductions were less. Towards the end of the federal taxes, a message will display the total amount of your itemized versus standard deduction, then select Standard Deduction. Then preview your 1040 and check if the amount on line 12 of 1040 is the amount of your standard deduction.

     

    1. Click on "Tax Tools" in the left menu
    2. Click "Tools"
    3. Click "View Tax Summary" in the Tool Center window
    4. Click on "Preview my 1040" on the left
