I am working on my taxes and Turbotax is recommending standard deduction of $25K over my itemized of $20K. yet when I do standard, I have to pay close to $2K in taxes and if I choose itemized, I get a $1800 refund. Is this a bug ?

Not necessarily a bug. While it's difficult to comment on specific reasons why your refund/tax due is different, it's possible that some credits may have been applied that you were able to take advantage of because more taxable income was reported in the return.  The earned income credit comes to mind as well as child tax credits.

if you like, we can take a look at your return. If possible, can you send us a diagnostic so we can see how this is treated in your return? The diagnostic will send us a "sanitized" version of your return, which removes all personal identifying information and all we see are numbers in the forms in your return.

If you are using Windows Desktop, select the online button at the top>send tax file to agent.  This will also bring up a token number.

Once you receive your token number, please let us know what that is so we can look at your return in detail.
