Question

My truck was totaled in 2018 and after the insurance claim I still owed $2,800 on it. How do I include this in my taxes?

Unfortunately, the deduction for personal casualty or theft losses has been suspended (eliminated) through tax year 2025, unless the loss occurred in a federally-declared disaster area and was directly caused by the disaster.
