Question

My wife & I live overseas with 3 children (19, 17 & 12). We get $3000 from Child Tax Credit but no Additional Child Tax Credit. Our income is $67K. Why no Additional CTC?

The Additional Child Tax Credit (ATC) allows you to receive a portion of your Child Tax Credit back as a refund. ‌It is not an additional credit on top of the Child Tax Credit.

You have received the maximum credits for the ages of your children. ‌The 12-year-old qualifies for the Child Tax Credit of $2,000, and the older children each qualify for the $500 Credit for Other Dependents (because they are each over 16 years old).

Here is some more information on the ATC: What is the Additional Child Tax Credit? as well as information on the credits for dependents: Rules for Claiming Dependents on Taxes
