Question

My Wyndham Vacation Ownership Interest Statement has always increased my refund since it is a mortage and deeded property. It's not accepting it. Which options do I use

Not sure if I put secured or not.  It has vacation ownership interest in Box 8 where address would be.  And which type of property would it be?  It did not increase my refund at all.

If you have a mortgage on a deeded property, it will normally qualify as mortgage interest for itemized deduction purposes. Entering it in TurboTax will not always increase your refund, since you need to have enough itemized deductions to make it beneficial to use them as opposed to taking the standard deduction.

I suggest you look on your tax return summary to see what your standard/itemized deduction is. The standard deduction for single filers is $12,550 and $25,100 for married filing joint. You add another $1,400 per taxpayer if they are 65 or older. It may be that your standard deduction is more than your itemized deduction (for state taxes, contributions, mortgage interest, etc...)

You can view your federal tax summary while working in the online version of TurboTax by following these steps:

While working on your return in the Federal section of TurboTax:

   1.  Choose the Tax Tools icon on your left menu bar

   2.  Tools

   3.  View Tax Summary
