Went into program to amend return.  Put correct amount of Foreign Tax paid in 1116 but the amount in Schedule 3 shows the corrected amount added to the incorrect amount.  Can't figure how to get it to reflect the new correct amount only.

@tomsevern , wracking my brain on what would cause the new entry to be added to the original ....

1. first let us make sure that you had filed a 2022 return and a copy of it exists on you computer; 2. you selected to amend a filed / accepted return  -- this should now ask you to save the original and open a copy of the original with diff. name.; 3. you then selected to be in forms mode and opened the 1116 worksheet ( the correct one if you have more than one 1116) and at the  area where it asks for the amount of foreign taxes paid , you replaced the original number with the corrected number.   Is this substantially what you did  or did you use step-by-step method  or what .

Given enough data ( non personally identifiable ) --- country & type of foreign income  and taxed by both USA and the foreign taxing authority -- original recognized and the corrected amounts , should be sufficient to see what is TurboTax doing.

I will circle back once I hear  from you --

Thanks for the information.  I'm not exactly sure what I tried to do, but I did recognize I failed to save the original tax return with a new name and then change that copy.  I was able to back up enough to get the original return clean and create an amended copy to use as my return.  I knew what the answer was that I needed to have.  I owed $109.00 more.  I clicked on amend the return and used the new saved copy of the original return and was able to only change the one  amount of "Foreign Tax Paid" and it showed I owed an additional $109.  Your information was really helpful and I really appreciate it.  I don't know why I just omitted saving the original tax return with a new name.  Just brain fog I guess.  Completed today and filed.  Gayle
