Question

NJ Health Insurance Exemption

I was without insurance for only two months so I filled out the exemption form for NJ taxes for short gap and got an exemption number. It said it would contact me if I was denied. I entered my exemption code in my turbo tax but I'm still being charge shared responsibility. Do I need to wait for a response from the Division of Taxation before I can complete my taxes? Thanks!

You shouldn't be charged to a shared responsibility payment if you have a short gap and an exemption code. Go over your questions again to make sure you didn't miss anything. You may wish  contact a specialist that can work through that section of the return with you to see why you are being charged.

Thanks. I went over it again and I only have two month gap and the exemption code is there as well as the charge. I'll contact a specialist.
