I purchased Performance Platinum Series ProTerra Hybrid Electric Water Heater and expect to get the tax credit but I do not see any place to input this except for gas water heaters.  Please help me find where to insert this cost for credit.  I have been to the correct area on turbo tax premium but as stated nothing I see for non solar water heaters (hybrid).

The Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit available on 2021 tax returns will apply to a solar water heater system when at least half of the energy used to heat the water is derived from the sun.

As you go through the Deductions & Credits > Home Energy Credits section of your return, look for the screen titled "Enter Any Additional Energy Efficient Improvements".  There will be a box for Solar Water Heating Costs where you can enter your cost to calculate the credit.

Use the following steps to go directly to the Home Energy Credits section of your return:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “home energy improvement” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to home energy improvement
  • Click on the blue “Jump to home energy improvement” link and enter your information
