NY State and Local Taxes

Hi,

I am itemizing my deduction because they exceed the standard deduction. However, Turbo Tax for 2019 is taking away over $19,000 in my itemized deductions for NY State and Local Taxes thereby reducing my itemized deductions to close to the amount of the standard deduction and increasing what I still need to pay in taxes. This did not happen on my 2018 return and since the new tax law was already in effect by then I don't know why this is coming up now. Can you please explain?

thanks

The only explanation is that TurboTax is correctly applying the $10,000 state and local tax limitation on Schedule A itemized deductions.  There is not a way around this limitation.

To learn more, take a look at the following TurboTax article:  Can I deduct state or local income tax on my Federal return?
