I entered Property Taxes (real estate), but I can't find it on Form 1040.

Where does the Real estate tax appear on Form 1040?

It appears it may not appear if taking a standard deduction (is this correct)?

How can I confirm I am taking Standard Deduction?

    Property taxes are reported on Schedule A - Itemized deductions.

    If you use the Standard deduction, then Schedule A isn't in your tax return.

    You take the Standard deduction when your itemized deductions add up to less than the Standard deduction.

    You know that you have taken the Standard deduction when the amount of the Standard deduction appears on line 12 of your Form 1040.

    For tax year 2023, standard deductions are:

    • $27,700 for married couples whose filing status is “married filing jointly” and surviving spouses;
    • $13,850 for singles and married couples whose filing status is “married filing separately”; and
    • $20,800 for taxpayers whose filing status is “head of household.”

    The additional standard deduction for a blind taxpayer—i.e. a taxpayer whose vision is less than 20/200— and for a taxpayer who's age 65 or older at the end of the year is for each instance:

    • $1,500 for married individuals; and
    • $1,850 for singles and heads of household.
