I have a child and work remotely. I am expected to file in both the state in which I live and the state in which I work. Am I eligible for child tax credit in both states?

Thanks for joining us today, JSG123!

The Child Tax Credit is a federal credit - so it would be claimed just once if eligible regardless of state returns.

The Child Tax Credit can significantly reduce your tax bill if you meet all seven requirements: 1. age, 2. relationship, 3. support, 4. dependent status, 5. citizenship, 6. length of residency and 7. family income. You and/or your child must pass all seven to claim this tax credit.

15 states do offer child tax credits - it would depend on what state you live in, and if they have one.
