Residential solar tax credit

I installed solar panels in 2021 but never claimed the credit on my 2021 tax return.  Can I claim the credit on my 2024 tax return?

    I think you would need to file an amended 2021 return.

    No. You do have time to amend your 2021 tax return, however you must take action now.  The deadline for this is April 15, 2025.

    1. First you need to Accessing a prior-year return (click the link).
    2. Next follow the instructions for amending your return. How do I amend a prior year return?

    The Form 5695 will be used to enter your solar panel credit. The 2021 Solar Tax Credit is a 26% Federal Tax Credit for solar energy systems installed before December 31, 2021.
