Retroactive Covid Relief Funds - Legit?

Hello! First time user! I just received something in the mail from GetGigRefund.com. It states that "since I filed self-employed income in 2020 and 2021 I am eligible under the Self-Employed Tax Credit (SETC) to receive retroactive Covid relief funds to help self-employed/Independent contractors recoup losses from Covid-related lockdowns, quarantines, etc. The IRS is enabling anyone that reported self-employed income to claim sick days and family care days." They have my loan #, Lender Name and amount in PPP I was paid right in the form. Is this legit? The govt didn't even make us aware that independent contractors were eligible for the PPP loan so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't notify us about something like this too. Thanks for your help 🙂

The 2020 SETC is no longer available since the 2020 return or amended 2020 return with the credit had to be filed on or before May 17,2024.

The 2021 SETC is still available.  If you filed a 2021 return and were eligible for and did not claim the credit then you will have to file an amended tax return.

Go to this IRS website for information - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/tax-credits-for-paid-leave-under-the-american-rescue-plan-act-of-2021-specific-provisions-related-to-self-employed-individuals

If you used TurboTax to file the 2021 tax return then see this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a prior year tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-already-filed/L4VjJ9BA2_US_en_US?uid=ld1n99kr

And....if you amend 2021, the amended return must be filed by mail.  It cannot be e-filed.  Use a mailing service like certified mail so you will know the IRS received it, since you will have a long wait for the IRS to process the amended return.

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take five months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
