Question

Should I select that I own a home if I moved into a qualified housing cooperative? I have information from the 1098 form.

Yes. Since you have a 1098, this will indicate to TurboTax that you have mortgage interest and the screens will appear during your federal interview as you are going through your return. You should have also gotten a letter from the co-op owner of your portion of the real estate taxes, which are also deductible.

You can follow these steps in TurboTax to enter your mortgage interest:

  1. With your return open, search for 1098 with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
  2. Select the Jump to 1098 in the search results to directly go to the 1098 input page.
  3. Enter the information.

To enter your 2020 real estate taxes paid, please follow these steps:

  1. Search for real estate taxes with the magnifying glass tool at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Jump to real estate tax link at the top of the search results.
  3. Answer yes to the question Did you pay property or real estate taxes in 2020?
  4. Fill in the property taxes paid in 2020.
