Splitting the house as a deduction?

I am almost through a divorce and have agreed to file 2016 taxes as married but file separately with splitting the house as a deduction.  Do I simply halve the mortgage interest and taxes and enter them on my return?  Both of us are listed on mortgage.

The deductions for mortgage interest and real estate taxes can be allocated between the owners however you like (as long as you're both on the mortgage and deed).

The deductions will usually benefit the person with the higher income more, but oftentimes it makes no difference how you allocate.

In your case I would just halve the mortgage interest and deductions.
