Spouse on SSD after stroke - Walk In Tub

My spouse had a stroke 12 years ago and we were finally able to afford a walk in tub.  It makes bathing both easier and safer for her since her mobility is limited and also only has use of one arm. She is on SSD. We did not get a doctor's note to install the tub. My question is - 'Can we enter this expense for the Walk In Tub in the medical expenses section or did we need a doctor's note to do so?'

It would be better to have a note from your doctor but the odds of that being audited are low. You can only deduct an amount of total medical expenses greater than 7.5 percent of your AGI and only if you itemize.
