Stimulus Check Question

So I don't know how unique my situation is but I can't file for 2019 because I need to contact the IRS but the department that I need to contact are down so I have to rely on my 2018 returns.

I had to pay that year though I didn't know that my bank information wasn't reported to the IRS until I got a good look at my 2018 file and I did try to call TurboTax about it through their support line, I legit cannot get in touch with someone unless I pay for the mid-tier package. I'm trying to use the Free Edition. I was trying ask them if the check was sent to them instead since they paid the IRS for me technically. I can't use the IRS site because all I get is Payment Status Unavailable and I just want some answers.

No, TurboTax did not 'technically' pay the taxes owed for you.  When you selected a direct debit from your bank for federal taxes owed, you entered the bank routing and account number for the direct deposit.  That bank information was sent with your tax return to the IRS.  The IRS debited your account.

Go to the IRS get my payment website to enter your direct deposit information -  https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment

Im not seeing any of that on my 2018 returns though, the bank information for direct deposit is completely blank so Im left to assume they didnt get the information when I paid for it.

Payment Status Not Available

The Get My Payment application will return "Payment Status Not Available" for several reasons, including:

  • You are required to file a tax return, but:
    • We haven't finished processing your 2019 return
    • The application doesn't yet have your data; we’re working on adding more data to allow more people to use it.
  • You don't usually file a return, and:
    • You used Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here but we haven’t processed your entry yet
    • You receive an SSA or RRB Form 1099 or SSI or VA benefits; information has not been loaded onto our systems yet for people who don’t normally file a tax return.
  • You’re not eligible for a payment (see Eligibility).

We update Get My Payment data once per day, overnight so there is no need to check more often. If you are eligible for a payment and have provided your information either through a recent tax return or the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here application, please check back for updates.
